*Tomorrow – 4th Oct, Harvest
*We plough the fields, and scatter the good seed on the land;
But it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand:
He sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain,
The breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain.*
Do consider bringing items for our Foodbank collection during our
Harvest Festival. They already have enough pasta, and are especially
looking for Chocolate, Crisps, Cereal Bars etc; Sugar 1kg Bags; Squash
Drink; Custard/ Rice Pudding; and Tinned Soup.
Normally we would have held one or more events supporting Christian Aid’s
Harvest appeal, but we are not able to do so under the present
circumstances. Please consider making a donation to Christian Aid directly
*UCL Study on Prayer and Singing during COVID*
UCL are doing a study on the impact of the pandemic on prayer and singing.
Please consider filling in their questionnaire, here:
*The Old Testament*
I have tried in recent months to concentrate on various important passages
of the Old Testament. Another cleric new to their first role decided in the
midst of Lockdown to preach through the great passages of the Old
Testament, *’to remind us of where we come from in a time of uncertainty.’*
I’ve attempted to do something similar sometimes on Sunday, and every day
in the online service of Morning Prayer. For those who find the Old
Testament more of a closed book, Chichester Cathedral are offering an
online course via Zoom, and this comes highly recommended.
*Annual Meeting, 1st Nov
*We can confirm that we intend to hold *St John’s ACM 2020 on Sunday 1st
November 2020*. We propose to hold this in church after the service,
subject to prevailing restrictions at the time. For those unable to
attend, but who wish to register a vote, we will make provision to do this
by email. We will provide more details in due course, including an agenda
and a slightly updated version of the annual report already circulated by
email on 4th June 2020.
In preparation for our ACM, and the subsequent Annual Parochial Church
Meeting of the Parish, we need to undertake the annual revision of our
Electoral Roll. This will begin in two weeks’ time per the attached
notice, which has also been put up on the church noticeboards.
If you are not on the Electoral Roll, but wish to be, please contact us as
indicated and we will give you a form to complete and return. This will
allow you to vote at the ACM. *
