Mid-Week Update from St Johns

Date: July 22, 2020

Hello all –

Well, we had a really lovely week last week in Sussex with my brother,
having decided at the last minute not to go to North Wales (which turned
out to be a good decision weather-wise). Rather bizarrely it turned out
that both your wardens ended up on Ditchling Beacon on Friday, doing pretty
much the same walk, but at slightly different times in the day so we didn’t
see each other – here are some photos I took while we were there (part of
my unpaid job as Sussex Tourist Board representative) – it’s just SO
beautiful up there – turning one way we could see across Brighton to the
sea, and the other right up to the North Downs – it was magical.

Stephen and Rosie are having a few days off, and when they come back, at
the beginning of August, we will move to having a short communion service
on Sundays, but I will let Stephen advise on the details when he’s back, as
we will still need to keep everyone distancing from each other.

*Sir John’s funeral*
Some of you may have already listened to Sir John’s funeral which took
place yesterday – I’m afraid I wasn’t thinking when I was closing up – I
should have taken some pictures of the flowers to show you today, as the
church looked absolutely gorgeous with the flowers and the sun shining
through the windows, lighting everything up. It was a beautiful service
for a most lovely man.

*Project Porch*
I’d just like to thank Richard again – as we’ve just about finished Project
Porch today (bar snagging items), by getting the renovated notice boards
back up in place. They have had a good polish, and been given new baize
linings, and they look much more loved – I probably shouldn’t say, but
there’s still a marvellous, heady smell of spray glue inside the glass
cabinet, if you like that kind of thing.

*And finally -*
On one of the walks from my brother’s house, the footpath went past a
workshop belonging to ‘Huggett and Brown’, and this is the kind of thing
they do – it caught us by surprise the first time, so we took this little
video on the second day. Forgive me for the end bit – I forgot that if
you turned the phone round, the picture would just end up vertical.
