Mid-Week Update from St Johns

Date: February 24, 2021

Dear all,

I’m definitely feeling more cheerful with this wonderful weather, Nick and
I have just got back from the Common, and it is really drying out which is
great – later on I’ll attach some suitably springlike photos that Anthea
and Ken sent to me earlier in the week – Anthea’s from their garden and
Ken’s from out and about – I was looking back through my inbox and I think
I started these updates last March, so we must nearly be full cycle with
seasonal photos – but I don’t think we’ve had a gosling before though

Julia asked me to mention a couple of things – first of all –

* World Day of Prayer 5th March
*World Day of Prayer poster.pdf

There will be a Zoom service at St Andrews celebrating World Day of Prayer;
the Zoom meeting details are below. The service will be at 10.30am, but
will also be available on YouTube from 5pm. Julia mentions that you don’t
have to have PayPal to make a donation – you can just join as a guest and
it will do the electronic payment for you.

Meeting ID: 823 1967 3709
Passcode: 713392

NB. The telephone number for anyone who doesn’t use zoom but would like
just to listen to the service is: 020 808 06592. (You will need the
passcode 713392 to get in)

And here is a link to a 30 min video which gives more info about WDP –

*Save the Date – Cancer Research UK
Talk by Stella Lyons on William Morris – Thurs 4th March 11am *
Julia also wanted to mention this Webinar by Stella Lyons, which is being
put on to raise money for Cancer Research. Tickets are £10 each.
Stella does a variety of talks on different artists, so I’m enclosing a
link to her website in case anyone is interested in those as well. I will
give the details of how to join the CRUK talk in next week’s update.
Nigel and Julia have been listening to Stella’s Friday talks and say that
they have all been fascinating, so it should be a good one to book!

*International China Concern*
Sally CE forwarded me this message from Judy at ICC – one of the St John’s
charities – it’s an update from them because it’s Chinese New Year.

*Dear Sally,*

*Thanks to you many families will have more cause to celebrate this Lunar
New Year. You have helped and supported them through the Family Partners
Programme in 2020. You provided teachers and therapist to give them hope
for the future.*

*So, they all recorded their own thank you videos for their teachers. And I
thought you should see them all. These families know that you gave gifts to
help them when they needed it most.*

*Look out for 5 year old Jin Hang, he is adorable!

Thank you so much for your gifts of hope. Xin Nian Kuile! (Happy New Year!)

*More tea, vicar…?*
Margaret emailed me to say that they have a ‘*Stressless Office Chair*’
that they no longer want – it’s hardly been used, but Chris found it too
big for his study, so they’d like to get rid of it. If anyone from St
John’s would like it, please either get in touch directly with the Smarts,
or if you don’t have their details, just email me and I can put you in

Prudie sent me this lovely, feel-good video which I’d like to share – the
title is, ‘Music Makes the World Jump with Joy’…

And finally, here are Anthea and Ken’s photos that I mentioned earlier –
