Mid-Week Update from St Johns
Date: May 20, 2020
I know, I know, it’s not Thursday; I’m really on my game this week.
(Mainly because Martin has a new office computer, which means Nick now
has an old laptop for school, which means that I finally get my computer
back during the daylight hours.)
As Stephen mentioned in his note last week, Yunghee’s last service in
Wimbledon is tomorrow night (Thursday), before she goes to join St Lukes in
Battersea as an Associate Priest next week. If you click on the link
below, there are details about how to join the Zoom service. It starts at
*8.15pm* (NB The note below says 8pm, but that was before they realised it
clashed with the ‘clapping for carers’ so they have moved it back by
quarter of an hour).

*Plant Sale Update*
Thanks once again to Sylvia and Tony Marland, for all the effort they both
took to arrange such a lovely impromptu garden sale – I think I said that
it had raised at least £130, but the final total is a lovely *£147*
which has been put in the lighting fund account.
Many of you will remember Anne Dixon (wife of Peter, after whom the ‘Peter
Dixon Room’ was named): Jane Austin emailed to let me know that sadly,
Anne had had a fall, and although she spent several days in hospital, she
unfortunately did not recover.
Also, you may remember Dave Cronin – who used to attend St John’s with
Dannie his wife – very sadly he also passed away at home on Thursday. The
children have set up a Justgiving site to raise money to buy a bench on the
common in his memory. I thought I would post the link, as there is a
lovely photo of him at the top, and some very touching words written by his
older daughter Elise that you might like to read.
I’m really noticing the colours changing as I do these weekly montages – it
looks as if we are slipping from spring into early summer, so I might have
to retitle if anyone has anything for next week – many thanks to Anthea and
Mike for sending their pics this week.

I think that’s all the news I can think of for the moment; once again, if
anyone needs anything delivering, please do let me know and we can arrange
that for you – absolutely no need to be brave and think it doesn’t matter –
there are quite a few of us out and about who would be able to help with
