Palm Sunday

Date: March 28, 2021

Dear St John’s Family,

It was a delight to see so many of you in church last week, and a real
relief to have reopened the doors so that we can begin to mark the solemn
days of Holy Week which are now upon us.

Tomorrow we shall mark Palm Sunday, and read the Gospel of the Passion. In
normal circumstances I understand this would involve a sung procession, but
government regulations do not permit such things at this time. I hope to
provide a slightly more expansive provision for Holy Week next year.

Our online services can be found below:

*Time like an ever flowing stream…*

Tomorrow morning our clocks move forward by one hour (spring forward, fall
back). As you might imagine, this day makes clergy especially nervous. I
seem to remember a service from my youth when the minister was summoned to
church to take the service whilst he had been having a leisurely breakfast.

One of my acquittances, now a curate in Somerset, once wrote an article on
the practice of clock changing, here

*Lent with the Academy Choir

*The Academy Choir have invited various Wimbledonians to provide
suggestions of music to listen to throughout the forty days of Lent, here

Many of us will have had our first jab, and some may have had their second
in recent weeks. The Church of England commends this campaign for donations
to UNICEF to fund vaccines across the world, here

*Galustian Houses Management Committee*

The parish owns four flats in Alexandra Road, known as the Galustian
Houses. There is a management committee that looks after the properties and
deals with any tenant issues. The present chair is stepping down after
several years in the job and we are looking for someone to take over the
role. The job is not hugely time consuming; an estate agent manages three
of the four flats, so there is only one tenant with whom you have to deal
directly. Otherwise, the duties are reacting to any requirements for
expenditure on repair, checking on rent payments, ensuring that annual
statutory gas and electric checks are carried out, reporting to the PCC
four times a year and dealing with any unforeseen problems. If you are
interested and would like to offer your services to the parish, please
contact John Bush (Parish Warden) for more details. Mobile: 07850 205949

*High Church*

Down the road at St Matthew’s, taking advantage of some work on the roof,
The Rev’d Dr Helen Orchard used the occasion to bless the church and the
work of the entire parish from the roof in this video, here

I trust the good people of St John’s will understand if I continue to
dispense blessings only from ground level.

With kind regards,
