Third Sunday of Advent

Date: December 13, 2020

Dear Friends,

Whilst the world around us becomes ever more festive, we continue with the
Season of Advent which will lead us in the due course to the new born
Christ-child.

We offer our usual services at 8:30 and 10:15 tomorrow morning. A recorded
BCP service is available online as below, and a recording of our 10:15
service will follow tomorrow afternoon.

*Social Distancing*

As infection rates appear to be increasing in the local area, a reminder of
the present requirements for public worship that we are obliged to live
under in Tier 2:
*
– A face covering must be worn.
– We must not ‘mingle with others.’
– Physical distancing of at least 1 metre should be maintained.
– Certain groups of people may be at increased risk of severe disease from
COVID-19, including people who are aged 70 or older, regardless of medical
conditions. Individuals who fall within this group are advised to stay at
home as much as possible and, if they do go out, to take particular care to
minimise contact with others outside of their household.*

*Other Services*
*
A service for Advent with Carols from St John’s Cambridge is available via
the BBC –https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000pvbl*

*If you fancy something a little different, then there is an online service
offered by the Church of England each week, here:

*Advent*

Advent is considered a time of spiritual preparation. For those looking for
something to ponder there is *Walking Backwards to Christmas* by Stephen
Cottrell, Archbishop of York (SPCK, 2013), or *The Art of Advent: A
Painting a Day from Advent to Epiphany* by Jane Williams (SPCK 2018). For
those looking for a shorter read, Rowan William’s reflections on the recent
months, *Candles in the Dark: Faith, Hope and Love in a Time of Pandemic*
(SPCK 2020) is superb.

For those looking for something to take up this season, a member of the
congregation has reminded us of Operation Christmas Child:

*Christmas is Coming!*

For those still to buy presents, do consider the highly acclaimed *A
History of the Bible* by John Barton (Allen Lane, 2019) or *Dominion: The
Making of the Western Mind* by Tom Holland (2019).

With kind regards,

Stephen
