Merton Night Shelter. If anyone is interested in helping with the night shelter, which runs at St Mark’s on Saturday nights from the beginning of December until the end of January, please could they contact Jane Long at church or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org. Most people sign up for one or two slots, so it’s not onerous, either catering for or manning the shelter. If you haven’t been before, there is a training session on Sunday 18th Nov 3-5pm at the YMCA in Wimbledon.
If you are unable to give your time but would like to support the Night Shelter, then we need the following: Oyster cards (so we can put money on for guests so they can travel to job interviews), Rucksacks – as per 3 bears, medium size (not too big, not too small) Hotel-type towelling slippers, so they can take off their shoes/socks to dry overnight, £10 pay-as-you-go phones (bricks), Trainers, steel toe-capped boots (for work), New boxer shorts, socks. Thank you!
Faith in Action – Urgently needs men’s clothes. If you are having a clean out of your cupboards, they are looking for casual clothes, jeans, polo shirts, T-shirts, jumpers, jackets, anything that would be good for layering as the weather gets colder. (NB They have plenty of women’s clothes, and can’t use suits or suit-type shirts). If you bring clothes to St John’s, Jane Long or May Nicholl will take them to FIA.
Wimbledon Food Bank: Thank you for all your generous donations so far. There is still a shortage of sugar (cubes or granulated), tinned sponge pudding, tinned rice pudding, jam and honey, pasta sauce, tinned meat (mince/steak pies/chicken pies/meat pudding etc ), tinned pears, tomato sauce and tinned fish. Thank you all so much!
