TODAY- St John’s LIGHTING PROJECT Ursula and Jane will be on hand to help with queries after the 10.15am service, please do look at the board by the vestry for project details.
CRAFT GROUP, Thurs 20th Feb 2-4pm – Crafting session in the church. All welcome!
Sun 23rd Feb, 10:15am Listening to St Matthew’s account of the Transfiguration, we shall also be hearing from Sally Carter-Esdale about the work we support through the Leprosy Mission.
Wed 26th Feb, Holy Communion with Distribution of Ashes, 8pm. Come to this meditative and sombre evening service which marks the beginning of Lent.
Thurs 27th Feb 2pm – MAPPING MERTON at the Wimbledon Museum – Jackie has very kindly arranged a guided tour of their current Map Exhibition. FEASTS & FESTIVALS – Shortened BCP Holy Communion with homily for the Eve of St Joseph, Wed 18th March, 5:30pm, and for The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Wed 25th March, 2pm, with The Rev’d Anne Cocking (Holy Trinity, Motspur Park) as our celebrant and preacher.
Sat 28TH Mar 5pm, “MARK’S GOSPEL LIVE” The Rev’d Joseph Morris – a former actor – has performed his one-man show in hundreds of venues in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, including Southwark Cathedral in 2016. This is a superb way for anyone of all ages to prepare for Holy Week on April 5th. (Joseph is coming a long way to perform for us – please do put it in your diary and invite a friend!) Admission: suggested donation of £10. 2hrs with interval.
RIP NIGEL RICHARDS: Christine Richards would like all in St John’s to know that there is to be a Thanksgiving Service for Nigel on Monday 23rd March 2020, at 11am, in Winchester Cathedral. There will be a short reception afterwards with drinks and nibbles. Everyone welcome. Please let Christine know, to give an idea of numbers. email@example.com – Nigel was a well respected and effective warden at St John’s, and he and his wife Christine were much loved and active members of both St John’s and the wider community.
LUNCHTIME RECITALS take place on the 4th Friday of every month at 1.00pm, featuring local and international professional musicians. The next one is Fri 28th Feb at 1pm; Rebecca Bell soprano Anthea Fry piano Music by B. Britten. Refreshments including coffee and homemade cakes are available before each recital from 12.30pm. There is a retiring collection.
THE WINTER NIGHT SHELTER is continuing for a 3rd block. Max Austin & Annalisa Zisman are looking for volunteers to help on Saturday evening/night/Sunday morning at St Mark’s Hall from 14th March to April 25th. CHILDREN’S SOCIETY BOXES As a result of David Farris’s (Voluntary Diocesan President for the Children’s Society Southwark ) presentation/speech at our service on Sun 2nd Feb we have 5 new Box Holders, but it would be good to have more. Visit to the Clink, Wed Mar 11th – Join Catherine & Ursula & other supporters of the Prisoners’ Education Trust at lunch in the Clink Restaurant in High Down Prison near Sutton. This is run by prisoners and serves excellent food. There are a few extra places available if anyone would like to join. Please speak to Ursula or Catherine or email email@example.com
TEAM PRAYERS at St Mary’s each Thursday in February at 1.00 pm.
PRE-LENT QUIET DAY: This will take place on 22nd Feb from 10.00am – 3.00pm at St Peter and St Paul (Mitcham Parish Church), Church Road, CR4 3BU. The desert was a place where Jesus came close to God. Come and explore what the desert might mean for you through worship, readings, prayer and silence. No need to book just come along! The day is being organised by the Merton Spiritual Formation Group and donations will go to Mitcham Parish Church towards costs.

SOULSCAPE, Thurs 5th Mar at St Matthew’s. There will be music chants from 7.30pm for those who would like to come early to pray. The service will begin at 8.00pm and last for around 45 minutes. Everyone is welcome.
Flies! Lice! Blotches! Blains! Sat 7th Mar at 7.30pm St Matthews Church – The Ariel Consort of London, directed by Douglas Lee, will perform Handel’s dramatic oratorio Israel in Egypt. In telling the story of Israel’s sojourn in Egypt, the Egyptian plagues and the Exodus, Handel uses his most colourful and descriptive musical language to illustrate those extraordinary events, with startling effect.
