Church of England Children’s Society – Many thanks to our 32 Box Holders, we raised a total of £1,033.53 lots of coins !(an average of £32.30 per Box Holder, considerably helped by 3 Box Holders whose Boxes had over £100 in them – £20, £10 and £5 notes help a lot)
An increase of £285.81 (38.22% on St John’s Box Holders for 2017 of £747.72) Every pound, penny and other coins collected in the Boxes plus notes and cheques made payable to the Church of England Children’s Society are most welcome. Over £1.4m was collected from Box Holders during 2018 with 7,069 Churches supporting the Societies work and these vital funds go towards fighting childhood poverty, harm, abuse and neglect and our Box Holders commitment is vital. We unfortunately during this coming 2019 year are loosing 2 Box Holders. So we urgently need some new Box Holders.
If you would like to become a Box Holder, please contact Mark Liversedge on 07803397317 or speak to one of the wardens.
The Hiding Place’ at St Mark’s on 26TH January:.This is a production by the Lantern Theatre Company, a small, but intensely lively and accomplished group of players. The play depicts the actions of Corrie ten Boom in Holland during the 2nd World War; its courage and its consequences. Ticket will be on sale after Christmas. Enquiries Nick Wolff c/o St Mark’s.
Message from the Wardens – Over January we will be putting together a profile of St John’s so that we can advertise for a new vicar. The more accurately we can show who we are and what we want, the more likely we are to get candidates that suit us. To this end, we are planning to have a ‘brainstorming’ session after church on Sunday 20th Jan where we can collect everyone’s thoughts and then use these in the document we are preparing. it would be useful to think about the following things –
- What does St John’s mean to you? – What should we maintain/expand on?
- Where do you see St John’s in the future? – What could we change/improve on?
If you cant make the meeting but have some suggestions / ideas please see one of the Wardens.
