St John’s Events

Sun 19th Jan 10:15am – Sung Eucharist with Holy Baptism Do join us as we hear St John’s account of the calling of Andrew and Simon, and baptise not one, but two children!

Friday 24th Jan 10am – The Conversion of St Paul As an experiment during Christmas, we had a shortened Book of Common Prayer service, with a homily, for the oft forgotten feast days that follow the Nativity – St Stephen, St John, and the Circumcision of Christ. This year we shall try and continue to mark these spiritual waypoints (red letter days!) throughout the year.

Friday 24th Jan 1pm – Lunchtime Recital Antonio Oyarzabal (piano) & Nadine Nigl (violin) W. A. Mozart E Minor sonata, n. 21 – J. Brahms Piano and Violin sonata in G op. 78 Please come along, refreshments will be available from 12.30. There will be a retiring collection.

Sunday 2nd Feb Candlemas (Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple) Whilst many people went back to work on the 2nd of January, the Christmas season doesn’t truly end until early February, where we shall celebrate St Luke’s account of Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to the Temple, and Simeon’s response, ‘Lord now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace.’ We shall be marking this at our Sunday morning service, and also at our monthly Choral Evensong at 6pm.

Thank you to all those Box Holders who contributed to the Church of England Children’s Society. We raised a total of £931.18 (an average of £30.04 per box holder) before the additional benefit of those Box Holders who have signed up to Gift Aid. Unfortunately there was a decrease of £102.35 (9.9%) raised on the previous year. Sadly we have lost 4 box holders having moved from Wimbledon. If you can help at all please contact Mark ark Liversedge to get and sign up as a new Box Holder  (07803397317) at 3 St John’s Rd or email him : – markliversedge@mypostoffice.co.uk.
